Health Care Climate Challenge

Health Care Climate Challenge participants are invited to submit their achievements in healthcare climate action for an opportunity to win Climate Champion Awards

Until 12 September, healthcare institutions can submit data, progress, and updates related to their work on the three pillars of the Climate Challenge: Mitigation, Resilience, and Leadership.

Healthcare climate leadership

Each and every institution has a vital role to play in preparing for climate change by building resilience at the facility, system, and community level, while also helping to prevent the problem by reducing the health sector’s climate footprint.

An initiative of Health Care Without Harm, the Health Care Climate Challenge engages and equips healthcare institutions – from small clinics to large health systems or ministries of health – to commit to effective climate action while building collective impact across countries and across borders.

We support healthcare facilities in calculating their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through the Climate Impact Checkup. This tool helps healthcare institutions to determine the footprint of their operations, pinpoint priority areas to target, and design effective mitigation plans tailored to their needs.

This data can be submitted via the Climate Challenge forms available in the Hippocrates Data Center on GGHH Connect, allowing healthcare providers to become eligible for the Climate Challenge Awards.

Healthcare facilities need to be members of our Global Green and Healthy Hospitals (GGHH) network to access these tools and become eligible for the Health Care Climate Challenge.

Not a member yet? Join our network to access Climate Impact Checkup and a suite of other resources available on GGHH Connect to support your efforts toward sustainable, climate-smart healthcare.
