On 8 May 2025, this session will examine transparency in the European pharmaceutical sector, highlighting practical methods to identify and capitalise on critical environmental data. Building on the outcomes of our previous workshop, our expert panel will reveal the key gaps in transparency and discuss innovative strategies to overcome these challenges. Whether you’re a health procurer or a stakeholder in sustainable practices, you’ll gain practical insights, participate in open dialogue, and be inspired to drive positive change towards a greener, more accountable pharmaceutical supply chain.
Why this matters
Patients across Europe rely on affordable generic medicines, which make up nearly 70% of dispensed prescriptions and treat conditions like diabetes and heart disease. But what happens behind the pharmacy counter? The long, complex supply chains that deliver these life-saving medications often fall short on transparency, making it difficult to trace products and monitor ethical and environmental compliance. This raises serious questions about the sustainability of these supply chains and whether social and environmental responsibility is being adequately prioritised. While the EU has taken steps to address these concerns through various directives and regulations, their effectiveness remains a critical point of discussion.
Improving transparency and accountability in pharmaceutical supply chains requires action. Building on a previous HCWH Europe workshop with diverse stakeholders, where we highlighted the need for standardised public reporting of environmental performance, this webinar aims to translate those recommendations into concrete steps forward.
